Extortion probe: two policemen detained for questioning

Officers, aged 29 and 36, from Seri Alam Narcotics Crime Investigation Department, remanded until tomorrow

11:55 PM MYT

JOHOR BAHRU – Two police officers from the Seri Alam district police headquarters’ Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) were detained yesterday to assist in the investigation of an extortion case involving a female cleaner.

Johor police chief M. Kumar said the policemen, aged 29 and 36, are on remand until tomorrow.

“However, one officer and seven other personnel arrested previously were released yesterday on police bail,” he said in a statement today.

On Wednesday, the police inspector and seven policemen from the Seri Alam NCID here were arrested in connection with the case.

A report that went viral on the Telegram app, purportedly connected to the police officers’ arrest, stated that a female cleaner claimed a policeman had demanded RM40,000 to release her younger brother, who had been detained in relation to a drug case. – February 10, 2024
