MBJB tower evacuated after early morning bomb scare

Employees were allowed to re-enter the offices at 2pm following an inspection by the police bomb squad

KUALA LUMPUR – Authorities at the Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB), located in Bukit Senyum, Johor Bahru, were jolted by a bomb threat sent via email this morning.

Mayor Datuk Mohd Noorazam Osman revealed that they received an early morning email from an individual identifying themselves as Takahiro Karasawa.

“We received the email at 5.44am, sent to the MBJB public email.

“My staff opened the email at 10am, revealing threats slated for today,” he told Buletin TV3.

However, after a comprehensive examination by the police’s Bomb Disposal Unit, the building was declared safe, and the threat was deemed as false.

Subsequently, approximately 600 employees were permitted to re-enter their offices at 2.05pm

Meanwhile, Johor Bahru south police chief Raub Selamat confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are currently underway.

In a similar incident on October 14 of last year, a prominent shopping centre and hotel in Johor Bahru experienced a bomb threat via phone call, resulting in the evacuation of all staff and visitors. 

However, police investigations later revealed it to be a hoax call. – February 12, 2024
