Kapar air crash: post-mortem expected to complete today

Fingerprinting of victim's family members completed, authorities to issue official statement once everything is confirmed

KLANG – The post-mortem for the two victims of the Kapar air crash is expected to be completed this evening.

Klang Utara district police chief S. Vijaya Rao said that, while the identities of the victims are already known, the post-mortem and body verification processes are standard operating procedures that must be strictly followed.

“The bodies are currently undergoing the post-mortem process, which we hope will be completed by this evening… or as soon as possible.”

“We will try our best. I have already discussed this with the pathology department to ensure the process is carried out as quickly as they can,” he told the media at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital Forensic Department today.

Vijaya confirmed that both families have submitted fingerprint samples to aid in identifying and verifying the bodies.

“Now that all confirmations have been made, the post-mortem process is underway, and the fingerprinting, involving the victim’s family members, has been completed.

“I will issue a statement once everything is confirmed 100%. Please wait for my official statement,” he said.

Earlier, the next of kin of the crash victims were seen leaving the hospital’s forensic department after providing fingerprint and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) samples to facilitate the post-mortem and body identification processes.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar confirmed yesterday that the pilot and co-pilot of the light aircraft died in the incident. 

He added that the victims, believed to be from Johor and Penang, were discovered at around 2pm inside the aircraft’s cockpit, which was buried more than 2 metres below ground. 

Previously, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) confirmed that no distress calls were recorded from the light aircraft that crashed near Kapar.

In a statement, CAAM chief executive officer Datuk Norazmam Mahmud said that the aircraft operated by the Air Adventure Flying Club had departed from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang at 1.28pm for a recreational flight. – February 14, 2024
