Photo of the day: February full moon, a celestial sign of multiculturalism

TONIGHT’S stunning full moon peeks out from behind a building in Jalan Imbi, Kuala Lumpur, casting a subtle orange hue on its surroundings. This month, the full moon coincides with Chap Goh Mei, Nisfu Syaaban, and Masi Magam celebrations, symbolising the unity and diversity of cultures in Malaysia.

Chap Goh Mei, the 15th and final day of the Chinese New Year celebrations, is a time for family reunions and the tossing of mandarin oranges into the sea or river to symbolise the hope for good luck and prosperity.

Nisfu Syaaban, in the Islamic calendar, is a time for reflection and spiritual renewal, often marked by special prayers and observances on the 15th day of Syaaban.

Meanwhile, Masi Magam, celebrated by the Tamil community, is a festival that honours the full moon in the Tamil month of Masi, often involving processions and rituals at temples. – February 24, 2024
