#Reformasi100Peratus: Bersih rally-goers hand demands to MPs, urging reforms

Crowd of over 100 gathers at Parliament building, some as early as 8am

10:52 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Over 100 Bersih supporters gathered at Parliament this morning to submit a memorandum to MPs, urging the government to introduce political reforms.

Wearing yellow and black T-shirts with Bersih prints, participants in the #Reformasi100Peratus rally, organised by the electoral watchdog, began gathering as early as 8am.

At about 9.30am, the group handed over a memorandum stating its demands.

The memorandum was received by Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim and Selayang MP William Leong, both from PKR.

Sg Petani MP Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari also received a copy of the memorandum.

Bersih chairman Muhammad Faisal Abdul Aziz is expected to present the memorandum to MPs before the rally adjourns.

It was reported previously that Bersih highlighted several reforms it had sought, including a limit to prime ministerial terms and the abolition of the Sedition Act.

Earlier this month, Bersih said it would not hesitate to organise street protests again if the government did not commit to its institutional and political reform agenda.

Yesterday, Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid told Scoop that Bersih’s planned gathering still breaches the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, as the notice was supposed to be delivered to police at least five days before the event.

Meanwhile, Project – Stability and Accountability for Malaysia, or Projek Sama, had urged Parliament’s officers to welcome all the Bersih participants who planned to march and gather at the legislative building’s gates today. – February 27, 2024
