KUALA LUMPUR – A Malaysian man accused of pushing his Thai girlfriend off the 23rd floor of a Setia Alam condominium will be detained for seven days until March 6 as part of the murder investigation.

Shah Alam police chief Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim told Scoop that the court granted the authorities’ remand request this morning.

“The suspect will be remanded for seven days, from February 29 to March 6.”

A video of a 37-year-old Malaysian man allegedly shoving his 32-year-old Thai girlfriend went viral last night.

The woman fell to her death and landed on the seventh floor, near the swimming pool.

A local man, who called the police at about 10pm last night, said he heard the couple fight before witnessing the man shove the woman off the balcony.

Iqbal said in a statement that the suspect was arrested at 10.10pm and tested positive for cannabis in a urine test.

Initial investigation found that the suspect is a lorry driver with seven prior criminal records and one related to drug use.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Upon conviction, the suspect could be sentenced to death or imprisonment between 30 and 40 years, as well as 12 strokes of the cane.

Those who have more information on the case should contact investigation officer Muhammad Khairi Kamaruddin at 012-266-6025. – February 29, 2024
