75-year-old woman arrested for driving against traffic in JB in early morning

This is the third such incident to occur in recent times in Johor

KUALA LUMPUR – The Johor police have arrested an elderly woman for driving against traffic at about 3am today.

The incident, which went viral on social media, showed the 75-year-old driving a Honda Civic with her hazard lights on, while being followed by police on motorcycles.

In a video clip, her actions resulted in other motorists in the lane being forced to slow down their vehicles.

This would be the third such recent case of an individual driving against traffic in the state.

The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. If found guilty, she could face a jail term of not more than five years and a fine of RM5,000 to RM15,000.

On Sunday, a similar case involving an elderly male driver who drove against traffic on the Linkedua highway saw his arrest by the police a day later.

The 74-year-old from Segamat had reportedly never set foot in Johor Bahru and faced difficulties en route to his friend’s house.

A few weeks earlier on February 11, a Bangladesh national was arrested after going against traffic on the Johor Bahru-Mersing highway.

However, he merely claimed it was because he had no licence. – March 1, 2024
