Datuk Seri Jamil Salleh dismisses claims as malevolent attempts to undermine Perikatan

KUALA LUMPUR – Dengkil assemblyman Datuk Seri Jamil Salleh has strongly refuted claims that he supports Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari’s leadership, dismissing them as malicious attempts to weaken the opposition coalition. 

Jamil said that allegations of him abandoning Perikatan Nasional (PN) and shifting support to the administration were baseless and carried a malevolent intent to undermine the coalition’s role as a check and balance in government decisions.

“As a representative, I have been given a mandate by the people, especially Dengkil constituents, to continue serving them,” he said in a statement.

“As an assemblyman from the opposition, (I have also) become the check and balance for the Selangor government, so that it is more transparent and has integrity in administering for the people of Selangor.

“Claims that I will turn my back on the party’s stance and support (Amirudin) are allegations with malicious intent to tear away the strength of PN, which has consistently defended the people.”

Jamil said that while he would cooperate with all assemblymen from both sides of the divide, his stance in PN remained unwavering.

He is the next person to assert his support for PN, following Jeram assemblyman Datuk Harrison Hassan, who was named as one of the representatives who would announce their support for Amirudin’s government.

Besides Jamil and Harrison, the other three are Rosnizan Ahmad (Morib), Wan Dzahanurin Ahmad (Sg Kandis), and Muhammad Muhaimin Harith Abdullah Sani (Batang Kali).

The declarations came after Selangor PN chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali urged them to openly reject the allegations to snuff out public anger and outrage.

Earlier today, Selat Klang assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari pledged support for Amirudin’s leadership, saying his constituents would benefit from a stable state government.

A Pakatan Harapan-linked website today alleged that five Bersatu assemblymen in Selangor would announce their support for Amirudin’s government, purportedly due to dissatisfaction with Azmin. – March 6, 2024
