Muhyiddin positive no further defections from Bersatu to support PM

Perikatan Nasional chairman also says MACC should not interfere with report on alleged reward for switching sides

10:03 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is confident that no more Bersatu members will defect from the party to join the unity government.

At the conclusion of the PN MPs and assemblymen convention last night, he said that those in attendance had no intention of emulating the six rogue MPs and assemblymen who pledged their support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Many individuals from Selangor came to see me earlier, telling me ‘I am not the one, Tan Sri. I am not,’ and clearly showing their reluctance to be associated with the actions of Selat Klang assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari.

“However, at the parliamentary level, there is no narrative of MPs leaving the party,” he told reporters.

Muhyiddin said PN’s stance remains strong, particularly following the passing of a motion by Bersatu to amend its constitution preventing members from switching sides.

Muhyiddin also said that along with party secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and several other top leaders of PN, they will submit the decision on the constitutional amendment to the Registrar of Societies tomorrow around 10am.

It was reported that Hamzah, meanwhile, said that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should not instruct when Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan should lodge a report on alleged financial remuneration rewarded to leaders for switching their support towards the government.

“The MACC must know that we are governed under Act 347, the Houses of Parliament Act.

“It should not interfere, whether it’s one week or two weeks to lodge a police report.

“When the time comes, a report will be lodged,” he said.

According to reports, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said last week that Wan Saiful has a week to lodge a report, and if he fails to do so, action will be taken against him.

Azam added that Wan Saiful should have made a report to the MACC under Section 25(1) instead of waiting for the anti-graft agency to summon him. – March 10, 2024
