KUALA LUMPUR – The sighting of the new moon for the commencement of Ramadan in Malaysia will take place concurrently at 29 observation locations across the country this evening.

For the Federal Territories, the three official locations are the KL Tower and Putrajaya International Convention Center, as well as the 10th floor of Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus in Labuan.

According to the Islamic Development Department (Jakim), the Federal Territories Mufti’s Office said it will conduct the official moon observation for Ramadan 1445 Hijri.

“Insyallah, the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal’s Office will announce the date of the first of Ramadan 1445H tonight,” it said in a statement.

Muslims here will begin observing fasting practices on the announced date, and the Tarawih or Ramadan nightly prayers will commence on the eve of the first day.

Meanwhile, other viewing locations in the country are Pontian Kecil, Johor, and the Falak Al-Khawarizmi Complex in Kg Balik Batu, Tanjung Bidara, Melaka.

The Baitul Hilal Complex in Telok Kemang, Port Dickson in Negri Sembilan, and Bukit Melawati in Kuala Selangor, Bukit Jugra in Banting, Kuala Langat, and the Selangor Observatory in Sabak Bernam, Selangor, are additional locations for observing the moon.

In Perak, the moon can be observed from Pasir Panjang Beach in the Pengkalan Baru Subdistrict, Manjung, the Falak Sheikh Tahir Center on Aceh Beachin Penang, and Kg Pulau Sayak in Kuala Muda.

For a breathtaking view, head to Langkawi and the Alor Star Tower in Alor Star, Kedah. – March 10, 2024
