Police arrest 32-year-old suspect, seize knife believed used to kill her son

10:33 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – A one-and-a-half-year-old boy was killed by his mother in an incident at a house in Pasir Gudang, Johor Bahru, yesterday.

Johor police chief M. Kumar said that after fatally injuring her child, the suspect then sent a picture of the victim covered in blood to her husband via WhatsApp.

Police received a report about the incident at 1.30pm yesterday, and the 32-year-old local suspect was arrested for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

“During the arrest, police confiscated a knife believed to be used to cut the victim at the scene of the incident.

“The application for remand against the suspect under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code will be made today,” he said in a statement.

Kumar said that investigations were ongoing to ascertain the motive behind the incident and the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

“The child’s body has been taken to Sultan Ismail Hospital’s forensic department for autopsy procedures, which are scheduled to take place today.

“The case is still under investigation; hence, the public is advised to refrain from engaging in any speculation that may impede the investigative process,” he said. – March 17, 2024
