Perlis United fails to get national licence, Super League season will proceed with 13 teams

Club did not meet three out of four conditions without presenting proper documentation

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian Football League’s (MFL) First Instance Body (FIB) decided not to grant a national licence to Perlis United Football Club (PUFC), following its failure to fulfil extra criteria set by the league governing body.

This is after the announcement regarding the decision to potentially award an extraordinary licence to the M3 Amature Football League (AFL) club on March 7.

The FIB has set conditions to ensure all financial due diligence is completed before issuing any type of licence to PUFC according to additional criteria as follows;

a. Proof of funds received in the account of PUFC totalling RM5 million like the cheque which they submitted before March 9.

b. A declaration signed by the team’s officials and players stating there are no outstanding debts on December 31, 2023 before March 13, 2024.

c. A stamped proof of sponsorship between PUFC and every one of the four potential sponsors which should have been submitted before March 15.

d. The first remittance of sponsorship funds received by PUFC from the sponsors above based on sponsorship payment conditions before March 22, 2024.

“Even though the final date of submission is on March 22 has yet to lapse, however, the FIB can confirm that PUFC has failed three out of four early conditions with it not presenting any documents like requested and has passed every given deadline.

“Thus, the FIB has decided not to grant a 2024-2025 Super League licence to PUFC.

“The FIB maintains its strict conditions to conserve the financial stability of the league and clubs and the due diligence process is carried out thoroughly to ensure the Malaysian League will not face any financial worries if PUFC is allowed to participate,” said FIB chairman Sheikh Mohd Nasir Sheikh Mohd Sharif in a statement today.

It added PUFC’s failure to obtain a national licence will see only 13 teams compete in the upcoming Super League season. – March 20, 2024
