Umno to take stern action against alleged sex offender in youth wing, says Akmal

Individual could be suspended first, says Youth chief

8:43 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Stern action will be taken against a Umno Youth leader over his alleged sexual assault case, said national wing chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh.

Stressing that the party will not compromise on matters involving crime, he said he mulled suspension for the accused wing member.

“I have brought this matter to the supreme council earlier today. We have agreed to bring this issue under disciplinary action,” he told reporters at the Umno headquarters here today.

“We will have a management meeting to discuss what (the necessary) actions are.

“We ask for stern action. Maybe we will suspend (him) first while waiting for his defence. If the charge is proven, then we call for very stern action, as we do not compromise on crime.”

Dr Akmal said immediate suspension could not be imposed upon the member as there was a process that had to be followed, but said the decision would be made before Aidilfitri.

On March 20, Johor Umno Youth chief Noor Azleen Ambros said the party would review its youth leader’s membership following the allegations, and would leave it to the authorities.

It was reported that the youth leader would be charged in court for allegedly sexually assaulting six male minors.

The individual was arrested on Monday, following police reports lodged against him. – March 22, 2024
