Parents of KLCA cyclists lodge MACC report on alleged misuse of funds

Representative Nor Azila Ab Razak says body owes a years’ worth of allowance payments Sukma programme riders, jersey claims

10:00 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Parents of Kuala Lumpur Cycling Association (KLCA) cyclists have lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) against the cycling body for alleged mismanagement of funds given by the Federal Territories Sports Council (FTSC).

Parent representative Nor Azila Ab Razak today in a press conference said the report was lodged yesterday.

“There have been overdue allowance payments for almost a year to riders in the Sukma programme.

“The FTSC was not aware of this as we had a meeting with them and we were informed that the funds for allowances had already been handed over to the association.

“The FTSC informed us that they have sought clarification from the association, but we are yet to know if there was a reply,” said the 41-year-old mother.

The parents also questioned the need for parents to pay for competition jerseys when an allocation has been provided by the FTSC.

“We bought the jerseys, and we have the receipts, but when we met with FTSC, they told us that last year KLCA received RM7,000 for jerseys.

“So why did we have to buy the jerseys for our children to compete?

“In Putrajaya, which is also under the FTSC, even their development riders get free jerseys.

“A parent who removed their children from KLCA and registered them with the Selangor Association received free jerseys within a month of joining.

“But we had to spend three times for jerseys. If we refused, our kids were denied participation in races,” she added.

On Thursday, KLCA deputy president Firdaus Arshad refuted the allegation that the association misappropriated funds from the FTSC in a press conference.

He added that they are ready to be investigated as all financial transactions are recorded and reported to the FTSC, with no misappropriations.

“We have all the transactions recorded, and the FTSC is informed about this,” explained Firdaus.

On Wednesday, it was reported that newly-elected KLCA president Datuk Razlan Razali had quit within less than a month into the job.

It was understood that after a meeting with the parents of cyclists, they alleged that issues involving racism, breach of trust, and misuse of funds from FTSC had occurred within the association in recent years.

He then held a council meeting a day later, but it got heated, which led to him handing in his resignation on March 16. – March 23, 2024
