Razlan's fate to be decided tomorrow after ‘hasty’ resignation as KLCA president  | Scoop

Razlan’s fate to be decided tomorrow after ‘hasty’ resignation as KLCA president

However, he insists he needs a committee willing to adapt to change, ready to fix its image

10:00 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Razlan Razali admits that his decision to resign as Kuala Lumpur Cycling Association (KLCA) president was hasty and said that he is willing to return, but he needs a committee that is willing to adapt to changes.

This follows pleas from parents of KLCA cyclists calling for Razlan to continue as president.

The former MotoGP team boss said if there is a chance, he wants to stay on as the president.

“My resignation was a bit hasty, but things were really heated during my discussion with the committee and I was provoked.

“But if you look at the situation now, it is different because when we hear the cries of the parents.

“I sympathise with them, especially for their children.

“I used to do talent development in motorsports, and I relate to them. This current situation with KLCA has fired me up to do something for the children.

“But if you want to instill change at an association, you need the whole committee to be on the same page. Otherwise, there is no use for me to get back in there if the same faces refuse to change with me,” said Razlan.

Razlan added that there must be changes done to KLCA to fix its image, or the association would not be able to approach sponsors.

“No one wants anything to do with the association with these issues present, from a talent standpoint too.

“Many have gone to Selangor and Putrajaya. Right now we lack talent too.

“KL is a huge name. If we can repair the image of the association and get back the confidence of the cyclists and their parents, I believe we can do something significant,” he said.

Tomorrow, KLCA will hold a committee meeting to discuss Razlan’s resignation. There will be a vote on whether to accept it or not.

If Razlan wants to stay, he needs seven votes to support him out of 13.

Earlier, it was reported that Razlan had quit his post less than a month after getting the job.

He mentioned that after a meeting with the parents of cyclists, they alleged that issues involving racism, breach of trust, and misuse of funds from the Federal Territories Sports Council had occurred within the association in recent years.

He then held a council meeting a day later, but it got heated, which led to him handing over his resignation on March 16. – March 23, 2024
