Pitch not-so-perfect: Hans’ fate as MSC chairman lies with board, Hannah says

According to Hannah Yeoh, his appointment is based on two-year contract, any decisions about his position made by BoD

KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Hans Isaac’s position as the Malaysia Stadium Corporation (MSC) chairman is set to remain unchanged despite recent scrutiny concerning the national stadium pitch.

Recently, dissatisfaction arose following MSC’s failure to deliver promises for an optimal pitch at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium for the Harimau Malaya World Cup 2026/Asia Cup 2027 qualifiers yesterday.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh clarified that Hans’ appointment as MSC chairman is based on a two-year contract.

Hans was appointed in June 2023, filling the vacancy left by Tony Fernandes.

While facing pressure from the majority of the country’s football fans including politicians, the decision regarding Hans’ position lies with the MSC board of directors.

“Hans Isaac was appointed as MSC chairman for a two-year term. I believe that all decisions within MSC are made in collaboration with the board of directors,” she stated during a dialogue and friendly session with media practitioners yesterday.

Fans expressed disappointment with Hans’ team when they failed to deliver a satisfactory pitch at the stadium, despite assurances that it would be in top condition following Ed Sheeran’s concert last month.

However, these assurances were not fulfilled, and the pitch remained unsatisfactory – resulting in Malaysian defender Azam Azmi Murad suffering a serious injury to his left knee.

In addition, Hannah clarified the status of the former MSC chief executive officer Mohd Faidz Sanusi whose contract ended on March 17 and did not resign.

“The CEO’s contract ended and as a civil servant, he returned to the civil service. We currently have a new COO (chief operating officer), but the CEO position remains vacant.

“The CEO position at MSCis still open, and anyone interested and resilient can apply and submit their resume because it’s a hot seat position,” she said. – March 27, 2024
