Sabah Electricity assures no power cuts during coming Aidilfitri

State utility has recently increased power generation by 100MW, says its CEO

9:33 PM MYT

SANDAKAN – There will be no electricity supply disruptions during the upcoming Aidilfitri season, said Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB), as the company has taken measures to counter the issue.

SESB chief executive Mohd Yaakob Jaafar said the power supply in Sabah was sufficient as the utility firm had recently increased power generation to the tune of 100MW, and the Kimanis power station had been restored.

“We expect that there will be no more disruptions… unless there is a power trip. We try (to minimise the disruption… several power stations have been installed… insya-Allah, it (power cuts) will not happen during Hari Raya.”

“If there is a sudden breakdown, we will inform the public about any power cuts,” he told reporters at SESB’s Ramadan programme at the Wasatiyyah Mosque, Batu Sapi, here, today.

Earlier today, Yaakob in a statement said SESB rented six generators that could generate 93MW of electricity for the state grid system, and three of them were in Sandakan.

He added that the installation of the Mowtas main distribution substation had been completed and was fully operational, generating up to 10MW of electricity.

“The second set of generators (is still being completed) and is expected to be fully functional soonest. Works at the main distribution substation in Seguntor and Labuk are going smoothly according to schedule.

“When completed, the main distribution substations in Seguntor and Labuk will generate 10MW and 30MW of electricity, respectively.”

Three more rental generator sets will be placed in Tawau, Lahad Datu and Labuan.

The installation of the six power generators will increase power generation in Sabah to 1,300MW, ensuring a more stable power margin for the state.

“SESB hopes that we will not be conducting any more load shedding when all these six generators are fully operational in May.” – March 29, 2024
