Suspect remanded a week after physically abusing partner’s daughter

KUALA LUMPUR – A 35-year-old man has been remanded for a week after physically abusing the 2-year-old daughter of his girlfriend in a car in front of the Billion supermarket near Bahau in Negri Sembilan.

Jempol district police chief Hoo Chang Hook said the arrest was based on a complaint received from the victim’s 66-year-old grandmother, who found something amiss after the child was sent home by the suspect at around 11 last night.

“Upon examination, the grandmother found injuries on the child’s lips, redness on both ears, and bruising on her left arm,” Hoo said in a statement.

The child was taken to Jempol Hospital, where medical officers confirmed the injuries to her left eardrum, bruising on both ears, injuries to her lower lip, as well as bruising on her face and left arm, Hoo said.

According to him, the incident occurred during a trip in the suspect’s car, but there were no witnesses or CCTV coverage at the scene.

Hoo said the suspect had been the mother’s boyfriend for three months.

“The suspect confessed to slapping the child’s cheek and twisting both her ears while they were in the car,” he said. 

“The incident was caused by the victim’s refusal to follow the suspect out of the vehicle and the child biting the index finger, which led to bleeding.” 

The suspect was brought before the Jelebu courthouse today, where a seven-day remand order was granted until April 10, he said. – April 4, 2024
