NSC stands behind decision to reinstate para-swimming coach accused of sexual misconduct

Investigations by police and misconduct committee found no evidence to substantiate the allegations

KUALA LUMPUR – The National Sports Council (NSC) reiterated today that the case involving a female para-swimming coach accused of sexual misconduct against an underage male athlete has been thoroughly and meticulously investigated.

They added that the decision to reinstate her to her position was deemed appropriate after thorough investigations by both police and the Misconduct and Sports Protection Committee (MSPC), which found no evidence to substantiate the allegations against her.

The committee conducted interviews with 11 witnesses with carefully examined statements and related documents before reaching their conclusion.

“The NSC is always committed to ensuring a safe environment for all parties involved in training programmes under its supervision and has consistently taken a firm stance against any misconduct that may jeopardise national athletes.

“At the same time, the NSC reminds everyone that the mental and physical well-being of athletes and coaches will always be prioritised, and baseless allegations can have detrimental effects on their preparations for global sporting events,” the statement read.

On Sunday, the NSC announced that the police had classified the case involving the coach as ‘no further action’ (NFA).

The MSPC also conducted an investigation which failed to find any evidence or witnesses to support the misconduct allegation.

As a result, the coach was reinstated to continue preparing the country’s para-swimmers for the upcoming Paris Paralympics. – April 4, 2024
