Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirms this to Scoop after fashion brand Vern’s courted controversy with design on product’s sole

8:24 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Police have opened an investigation regarding the viral issue of a shoe logo alleged to resemble the word “Allah”.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed the matter to Scoop when contacted today.

Earlier, the Islamic Development Department was instructed to summon the relevant parties tomorrow to obtain further clarification regarding the viral issue of the shoe logo allegedly resembling the word Allah.

Religious affairs minister Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said this following a viral post on social media regarding the issue.

The police investigation comes after a teacher in Butterworth, Penang, lodged a report at the Sg Dua police station today after seeing a post on Facebook regarding the sole of a shoe which allegedly carried the sacred scripture.

In response to the controversy, Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh gave fashion company Vern’s a 24-hour deadline to explain

He said a boycott of the company’s products will be initiated if there is no explanation within the timeframe.

However, Vern’s has come forward with an apology for unintentionally offending Muslims. They also explained that the logo was meant to resemble the silhouette of a high-heeled shoe with an attached image of the design.

It added that the logo is printed on its signature product, which it has immediately ceased the sale of. – April 7, 2024
