KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has yet to have any discussions on the candidate that Pakatan Harapan (PH) wants to field for the Kuala Kubu Baharu state by-election. 

“I haven’t discussed with anybody about it (by-election),” he told reporters briefly when attending the Hari Raya Aidilfitri feast and Friday prayers at Masjid Bandar Utama Batang Kali in Hulu Selangor today.

On April 7, the PH leadership met to finalise its candidate for the by-election, which is scheduled for polling on May 11. 

“We hope that the decision (to finalise the candidate) can be made soon, but for now, it’s under discussion, and no decision has been made yet.

“… but as for which party will contest, that has been determined, and it is a PH-Perpaduan candidate from DAP,” said DAP deputy chairman Gobind Singh Deo.

Selangor PH also appointed Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han as the election director for the by-election. He is assisted by Selangor PH secretary Khairuddin Othman, Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin and Shah Alam MP Azli Yusof.

The Election Commission set polling day for Kuala Kubu Baharu on May 11, while nominations and early voting day will be on April 27 and May 7, respectively.

The seat became vacant following the demise of its incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong, of DAP, on March 21.

Lee, 58, who had been the Kuala Kubu Baharu assemblyman under the Hulu Selangor parliamentary constituency since 2013, had battled cancer for several years.

The electoral roll for the seat comprises a total of 40,226 registered voters consisting of 39,362 regular voters, 625 police personnel, 238 military personnel and spouses, and one absentee voter residing abroad. – April 12, 2024
