Fahmi wants action against social media account claiming oil royalties funnelled to PKR

Allegation on funds meant for Kelantan, Terengganu is ‘evil slander’, says comms minister

11:47 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has called for action against a social media account claiming “billions” in oil royalties meant for Kelantan and Terengganu were instead funnelled to PKR.

Such claims are fake, “disgusting” and slanderous, he said, adding that reports would be lodged with the authorities.

“I have ordered for a police report and a complaint to be made to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission immediately against the individual who is spreading this evil slander,” Fahmi said on social media.

The minister, who is also PKR information chief, said the party published its accounts at every congress it held.

“Never have such amounts as claimed ever been channelled into PKR’s accounts,” he added.

In his post, Fahmi attached a screenshot of the offending social media account, which has the username “Jabatan Netizen Negara (Official).”

The post claims that the PAS-led states of Kelantan and Terengganu are not receiving their oil royalties because Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has channelled the funds to PKR to the alleged tune of “billions of ringgit”.

The Finance Ministry on Monday said Putrajaya had disbursed RM172.3 million in oil royalty payments to the Terengganu government and RM58.6 million to the Kelantan government in the first week of the month.

A further RM103.1 million in federal funds was allocated to Terengganu for it to pay its contractors, the ministry added.

Any remaining oil royalty payments for the two PAS states would be channelled through various projects targeting poverty eradication and infrastructure improvements.

Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar on Tuesday recorded his thanks to the federal government for the payment in a post on X. – April 13, 2024
