Party deputy president says its plans have been put on hold for 25 years

1:02 PM MYT

SHAH ALAM – PKR cannot afford to waste any more time and must diligently work towards fulfilling the reforms promised to the people, said PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli.

He said that PKR’s reform initiatives have been delayed for the past 15 months due to members’ concentration on amending administrative aspects in Parliament.

He also asserted that these reforms have been put on hold for the past 25 years.

“Since 1999, when we (PKR) initially set out for economic reforms, we have been slowed down, hindered, delayed (from accomplishing the reforms) for a generation. We have no time to waste,” he said at the party’s 25th anniversary special convention at the Ideal Convention Centre today.

Rafizi also said that this strategy will be crucial to remain in power as the party gears up for the 16th general election.

“Leading a country is no easy task with all the agendas and interference from others. After this convention is over, all members of the party will receive a list of tasks or goals to accomplish in preparation for the next general election in a few years’ time,” he said.

Rafizi also said that the party must move forward with the times and use Kodak as an example to stay relevant for the years to come.

“Kodak used to be the number one brand in the world for photography, but due to complacency and reluctance to adapt to modern times, the company fell into hard times,” he said.

Rafizi also cited another instance from the 2010s, pointing out that PKR was among the early adopters in leveraging social media platforms like Facebook to disseminate messages to the people.

Now, rival parties have stepped up and effectively utilised social media to spread their influence. – April 21, 2024
