Authorities yet to determine if negligence played role in incident

PAPAR – Police are still investigating the death of the daughter of Lahad Datu district police chief Dzulbaharin Ismail.

Sabah police commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said further investigations also involved the district police chief himself.

“An investigation is being conducted on him because he owns the gun,” he told reporters today after attending the Papar parliamentary constituency and Kawang state constituency’s Aidilfitri celebrations.

Jauteh said the investigation has yet to reach any conclusions about whether the case is related to negligence or not.

“That’s something we haven’t been able to make a decision on. We haven’t made a final decision yet until there is a full report on the results of the investigation,” he said.

He said that police have yet to decide whether the district police chief will be suspended because the investigation is still ongoing.

It was reported on April 17 that Dzulbaharin’s 14-year-old daughter died from a gunshot to the right chest after being discovered covered in blood in a room at her home in Taman Tabanak, Lahad Datu, on April 16.

According to Sabah deputy police commissioner Datuk Shahurinain Jais, an autopsy at Lahad Datu Hospital revealed that the victim had only one gunshot wound on her body. – April 21, 2024
