KLIA shooting: court extends remand for Hafizul until April 27

Magistrate grants police’s request to add another five days for investigation

10:48 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The remand order for Hafizul Harawi, the suspect who opened fire at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 arrival hall on April 14, has been extended for another five days until April 27.

The remand order issued by magistrate Ahmad Syafiq Aizat Nazri against the 38-year-old begins tomorrow to assist in the investigation under Section 8 of the Firearms (Heavier Penalty) Act 1971.

Earlier, Hafizul arrived at the Kota Bharu magistrates court in Kelantan – clad in lockup attire and escorted by police – at 8.35am for a remand application.

On his way to court, he repeatedly declared his love for his wife, Farah Md Isa.

“Assalamualaikum, I still love my wife, Farah Md Isa. Thank you,” he said.

Media reported that Hafizul has been remanded for seven days since April 16.

The suspect was arrested in front of a private hospital by the special criminal investigation department of the Kelantan criminal investigation department at about 3pm on April 15.

Scoop previously reported that a bodyguard was seriously injured after being shot by the suspect.

In the incident two weeks ago, the man fired two shots, one of the shots hit his wife’s bodyguard. The victim is being treated in the hospital.

The suspect is believed to have bought the gun he used from a Thai national for RM5,000. – April 22, 2024
