KUALA LUMPUR – The suspect in the recent shooting at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 arrival hall on April 14 is expected to be charged at a court in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, tomorrow.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun confirmed that Hafizul Harawi, 38, will be brought to face charges tomorrow, but declined to reveal the exact nature of the accusations against him.

“(Hafizul) will be brought to the Kota Bharu court tomorrow to be charged. Let the DPP (deputy public prosecutor) be the one to read out the charge tomorrow,” he said briefly when contacted by Scoop.

He also said that Hafizul will be transported to Sepang, Selangor, to face a separate charge at a court there.

Yesterday, the remand order against Hafizul was extended to April 27 to facilitate investigations under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for unlawful possession of a firearm.

The suspect was arrested in front of a private hospital by the special criminal investigation department of the Kelantan criminal investigation department at about 3pm on April 15.

In the incident two weeks ago, the man fired two shots, one of which struck his wife’s bodyguard. The victim is still receiving treatment from a hospital for his injuries.

The suspect is believed to have bought the gun he used from a Thai national for RM5,000. – April 23, 2024
