MACC to make more arrests in RM600,000 false claims case involving Perlis MB’s son

Tan Sri Azam Baki also adds graft busters will file new application to extend remand for those already detained

5:58 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said more arrests would be made in relation to the case of document forgery and false claims submissions totalling RM600,000 over the past two years, allegedly involving the son of a menteri besar.

Its chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said this is to substantiate the allegations of wrongdoing linked to the case.

The case has also garnered public attention following the arrests of six individuals, as the son of Perlis MB Mohd Shukri Ramli was among the suspects.

“Some individuals will also be called to testify,” he told reporters after officiating the new MACC office in Gua Musang, Kelantan, today.

Azam said that MACC would file a new remand application against the suspects as the current period is insufficient.

Earlier today, the remand order for the son of the menteri besar was extended until tomorrow to assist in investigations.

The remand of four other suspects was also extended until tomorrow – while a civil servant from the State Secretary’s Office, who was previously remanded, was released after investigations against him were completed.

Magistrate Ana Rozana Mohd Nor granted the remand extension following an application from MACC to conduct investigations under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

All the suspects, aged between 26 and 37, were detained between 7am and 8am on Tuesday.

The case under investigation relates to document forgery and submissions of false claims when the project in question was not carried out.

Earlier, Shukri said that if his son is guilty of corruption charges, then punishment should be imposed. – April 25, 2024
