KUALA LUMPUR – Batu Pahat hockey is about to receive a boost from the local authority.

This comes after Batu Pahat MP Onn Abu Bakar expressed concerns over the deteriorating conditions of SMK Dato Bentara Luar’s synthetic hockey turf.

“Onn Abu Bakar assured steps would be taken to address the issue, possibly allocating funds in the next Malaysia Plan for a new turf,” read the statement issued by Batu Pahat Hockey Association.

The association recently organised the Onn Abu Bakar Cup Hockey 7s Tournament 2024.

The event was held at the school and was graced by Onn, drawing participation from local players and spectators alike.

Onn praised the association for organising such a tournament that showcased the talent and passion for hockey within the community.  

“Onn’s sponsorship and encouragement have not only provided a platform for aspiring athletes to showcase their talents but have also fostered a spirit of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and excellence among participants.

“His patronage has been instrumental in making this tournament a resounding success and has greatly contributed to the development and promotion of hockey in our community,” the statement added. – April 28, 2024
