Trust MACC’s intentions in Perlis MB graft probe, says Zahid

Leave it to anti-corruption agency to investigate Mohd Shukri Ramli, says DPM

7:00 PM MYT

PUTRAJAYA – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi urged all parties to exercise “husnuzon” (positive presumptions or thoughts) towards the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) after the agency recorded a statement from Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli to assist in an investigation into allegations of abuse of power.

“We should exercise ‘husnuzon’ and leave it to the MACC to investigate, and we will see if the MACC prepares an IP (investigation paper) and submits it to the Attorney-General’s Chambers,” he told the media after the Semarak Madani event at Kompleks C, here today.

“We have nothing to do with any events, before and after that,” he said.

Earlier today, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that the anti-graft body recorded a statement from Shukri at its headquarters in Putrajaya.

On April 28, the MACC confirmed that it had initiated a probe into a senior state leader in a northern state, over claims that he appointed companies in which he had vested interests for several projects, worth RM300,000.

MACC sources said that the senior leader also allegedly appointed several companies, which his son was said to have an interest in, for maintenance and renovation works for the state leader’s office, involving a RM1-million allocation.

The media previously reported that five individuals, including Shukri’s son, were arrested by the MACC in relation to a case of making false claims, amounting to nearly RM600,000. – April 30, 2024
