JOHOR BAHRU – Police have arrested four individuals to assist in the investigation into the death of a nine-month-old baby girl, believed to be from abuse.

Johor Bahru Utara district police chief Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh said all of them, aged between 29 and 42, were arrested at several locations around the city last Thursday (April 25).

“The police received a report from a medical officer at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) on Thursday about a suspected abuse case involving a baby girl receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.

“The infant was confirmed dead the following morning at 3.50am, and the results of the autopsy revealed criminal elements in her death,” he said in a statement last night.

Balveer said those arrested were two foreigners, a local man and the infant’s carer, a local married couple.

“The police are tracking down the victim’s Vietnamese mother,” he said, adding that those detained have been remanded for six days beginning Friday (April 26).

The case is being investigated under Section 31 (1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. – May 1, 2024
