Ramasamy directionless, vindictive in anti-PH campaign, says Loke

DAP secretary-general says the former party stalwart bears a grudge for being dropped as a candidate last year

KUALA KUBU BAHARU – Former Penang deputy chief minister II P. Ramasamy is directionless and is only campaigning against Pakatan Harapan (PH) due to a personal vendetta, according to DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.

Loke, who is also transport minister, said Ramasamy was vindictive over DAP’s decision not to field him as a candidate for the Penang state polls last year.

“If we look into (Ramasamy’s) claims, he is someone with no direction. He said ‘do not vote for PH’, who do we vote for then?

“He has no alternatives. His politics is based on vengeance towards DAP and PH because he was not re-elected (as a candidate),” he told reporters here.

Loke said that while Ramasamy has the right to express himself, people are wise enough to form their own judgments.

Instead, Loke said the unity government would focus on disseminating their plans as state representatives to the Kuala Kubu Baharu community.

Recently, Ramasamy, who is the United for the Rights of Malaysians Party (Urimai) chairperson, called on Kuala Kubu Baharu voters to reject PH over alleged unfulfilled promises by the federal government.

His statement was met with criticism from government lawmakers, including Communication Minister and PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil, who suggested that Ramasamy “lacked affection” and should consider joining Perikatan Nasional.

In response, Ramasamy said he was not in need of affection but urged for the fair treatment of Indians and other deserving Malaysians.

Separately, DAP’s R.S.N. Rayer said politics was about loyalty and principles, not selfish personal interests.

PKR deputy information chief I Datuk R. Ramanan held Ramasamy accountable for the fate of the people in Kuala Kubu Baharu, particularly the Indian community, if support was not given to the ruling party’s candidate. – May 1, 2024
