KUALA KUBU BAHARU – Transport Minister Anthony Loke admits to “some issues” in improving the public transportation system connecting the constituency here to Klang Valley, despite Pakatan Harapan (PH) helming the state since 2008.

But he vowed that the federal and state governments would focus on adding more public buses, especially in Kuala Kubu Baharu, where the majority are residential areas.

Loke, who is also DAP secretary-general, added that the ministry is aiming to improve connectivity within Selangor.

“There is a need for buses (here) and their connectivity to KTM stations, as there is one here that could directly go to Klang Valley or Kuala Lumpur.

“We are hoping the connection and integration between public transportation here can be improved. We will continue to give our attention,” he told reporters here.

He was responding to a request by a local for better public transportation here.

Should the PH candidate win the state seat, Loke said efforts to improve public transportation facilities here would be carried out, such as the rail services from the constituency to Klang Valley.

He added that rail track-related issues on the Tg Malim KTM route to Kuala Lumpur will be addressed, on top of its speed being expedited to 15 minutes between destinations.

In the by-election, DAP’s PH candidate, Pang Sock Tao, is in a four-cornered fight with Khairul Azhari Saut (Perikatan Nasional), Hafizah Zainuddin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and Nyau Ke Xin (independent).

The seat fell vacant following the death of its incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong, 58, of DAP on March 21 due to cancer. Polling is on May 11 and early voting is on May 7. – May 1, 2024
