KUALA KUBU BAHARU – After almost a week of campaigning, the unity government candidate for the by-election here, Pang Sock Tao, finally unveiled her manifesto for the state seat.

Themed “Kekal Kuala Kubu,” the manifesto focuses on economic aspects; facilities; environment and recreation; heritage and culture; and public wellbeing.

Pang, 31, said she used the one week of campaigning to gather feedback from Kuala Kubu Baharu residents, while her campaign team also conducted research into the area’s needs.

“My main focus, if elected, is to boost economic activities based on industrial development in Hulu Selangor.

“Tourism is also another key economic generator in this area. I want KKB to be a main weekend tourist destination.

“In fact, next year is Visit Selangor Year, so efforts to promote local tourism will be intensified,” she said.

Pang explained her manifesto at a ceramah by Pakatan Harapan (PH) here last night.

Also present were leaders from her party, DAP, namely secretary-general Anthony Loke, deputy chairman Gobind Singh Deo and organising secretary Steven Sim.

Other leaders present from DAP’s allies in PH and Barisan Nasional were Selangor PH chairman and state Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Negri Sembilan PH chairman Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun and former Selangor menteri besar Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib.

Pang also pledged to improve Kuala Kubu Baharu’s public transportat and facilities, as well as internet speed.

The 31-year old will be attempting to defend the seat for DAP-PH for the fourth time, after it was won in three elections since 2013 by incumbent Lee Kee Hiong, whose death on March 21 led to the by-election.

It will be a four-cornered fight involving Pang, Khairul Azhari Saut (Perikatan Nasional), Hafizah Zainudin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and Nyau Ke Xin (independent).

Polling is on May 11 and early voting is on May 7. – May 4, 2024
