Speed and commitment: Anwar calls for civil servants, govt agencies to mirror Saudi work ethic

PM highlights Saudi government officials' remarkable efficiency during his participation in World Economic Forum special meeting, noting their swift decision-making processes

10:12 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim urged civil servants and government agencies to emulate the speed and efficiency of their counterparts in Saudi Arabia in their work commitments.

He said that during his recent three-day working visit to Riyadh, where he took part in the World Economic Forum’s special meeting, he was impressed with the efficiency of the government officials there.

“At about 9.30am, the Malaysian government presented its terms for the investment of Saudi Arabia-based renewable energy giant Acwa Power in Malaysia, and at 8pm, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is also prime minister, was briefed about the plan and has given the green light to proceed.

“There are two things to highlight here: first, Saudi Arabia’s confidence in Malaysia, and second, the efficiency of the government agencies working together,” he said.

Anwar said that this should be exemplified by the country’s civil service and government agencies to achieve efficient work, ensuring the government’s commitment to effectively deliver to the people.

“Though there are some deficits and leakages (in the country), they’re not as significant as before. Civil servants must demonstrate commitment to assisting in delivering the government’s commitments to the people, especially those in the lower income groups and the poor,” he added.

The prime minister was speaking during the Prime Minister’s Department monthly assembly in Putrajaya today.

Anwar, who is also finance minister, previously announced that Acwa Power has disclosed its plans to collaborate with several strategic Malaysian partners in developing renewable energy (RE) projects across multiple states in Malaysia.

In a recent Facebook post following his meeting with Acwa Power chairman Mohammad A. Abunayyan and the company’s senior management representatives, he said the company also presented its investment proposals, including collaboration in developing several energy projects in Terengganu, Kelantan, Perlis, Sarawak, and Johor. – May 6, 2024
