KUALA LUMPUR – Pakatan Harapan (PH) has never ordered or allowed the election machinery in Kuala Kubu Baharu to use the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s photo as part of the coalition’s campaigning.

PH election director Ng Sze Han also slammed the move to use the king’s photo in the by-election campaigning, stating that it was uncalled for and should not have been done.

“As the election director for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election, I want to stress that our party neither ordered nor condoned this action by any of our campaign staff.

“We are aware that the police are conducting an investigation, and we are ready to cooperate fully,” he said in a statement today.

Ng said this after police arrested two men and seized a four-wheeled vehicle for allegedly displaying the image of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim during the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election campaign.

It was also reported that the vehicle also displayed flags representing political parties.

Hulu Selangor district police chief Ahmad Faizal Tahrim said in a statement today that the two men, aged around 60, were apprehended in the vicinity of Ulu Yam Lama, near here, after a report was lodged over the matter.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain was also reported as saying that the two men will be charged at a Kuala Kubu Baharu magistrates’ court today.

He added that the charges would be brought under Section 4A(1) of the Election Offences Act 1954 for malicious intent. – May 6, 2024
