Ceiling leak disrupts operations at RTD trade unit in Wangsa Maju

Public Works Department will conduct further inspections tomorrow morning to find out the cause of the incident

KUALA LUMPUR – A serious leak in the ceiling at the trade unit of the Road Transport Department (RTD) here, near Wangsa Maju, has caused water to overflow into the entire office area.

The incident, which occurred at 2.10pm today, was confirmed by RTD director-general Datuk Rospiagos Taha in a statement, following the circulation of a viral video showing rainwater entering the office space due to the leaky roof.

According to Rospiagos, immediate action was taken to address the situation by shutting off the electrical switch on the distribution board and inspecting the condition of the trade unit’s roof.

“The initial inspection revealed stagnant water due to a blocked water channel, leading to overflow,” the statement read.

“Efforts to clear the channel were promptly undertaken to ensure proper water drainage.”

Rospiagos further noted that the Kuala Lumpur Public Works Department (KL PWD) was summoned to investigate the source of the leak and assess the safety of the office.

The KL PWD is scheduled to conduct further inspections tomorrow at 9am to pinpoint the cause of the overflow and recommend safety improvements.

“In the interim, the JPJ has relocated operations of the trading unit at gates 5 and 2 to prevent any disruption,” he added. – May 8, 2024
