FAM chief calls for an end to wild speculations, focus on rebuilding nation’s football reputation

9:03 PM MYT

SHAH ALAM – Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president, Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin, asserted that he would not step down despite various issues and challenges plaguing the local football scene.

Hamidin refrained from providing further comments after Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain did not dismiss the cases involving attacks on three national football players.

These incidents have been linked to a poison-pen letter against FAM that circulated at the end of March.

Instead, Hamidin, who has served as FAM president for six years, urged for wild speculations to cease and called for efforts to focus on rebuilding the nation’s football reputation.

In recent events, three players, namely Terengganu FC’s Akhyar Rashid, Selangor FC’s Faisal Halim, and JDT’s Safiq Rahim, have been targeted by unidentified assailants.

Faisal, in particular, suffered severe injuries from a sulfuric acid attack, resulting in fourth-degree burns on multiple body parts.

“I know what I’m doing, I am sincere in my work without any hidden agenda. If people think otherwise, there really isn’t.

“So, that statement is each person’s assumption… I leave it to the authorities.

“We need to restore the image of national football together so that such incidents do not recur, and we need to address this issue together.

“There are matters within the jurisdiction of FAM and MFL (Malaysian Football League), and there are certain matters we leave to the authorities to carry out their duties.

“So I remind all fans not to speculate further and escalate the situation, this is each person’s interpretation,” said Hamidin, who was met after visiting Faisal at a private hospital in Shah Alam this evening.

Hamidin was accompanying Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution during the visit to the national striker. – May 8, 2024
