KL entertainment centre targeted in suspected petrol bomb attack

Police investigating incident in Jalan Yap Kwan Seng, captured on CCTV footage around 2.18am yesterday

10:14 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Police are investigating an incident in which a petrol bomb was thrown into an entertainment centre in Jalan Yap Kwan Seng yesterday.

Dang Wangi district deputy chief Nazron Abd Yusof confirmed that a police report has been lodged regarding the incident.

He said that the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage revealed the incident occurred around 2.18am on May 9.

However, he said, the actual timing of the incident is still under investigation.

“Police will open an investigation paper under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire with the intent to cause damage. The investigation is still ongoing,” he told the media.

The CCTV recording of the incident has been circulating on social media, garnering attention until now.

The video shows at least four men parking their motorcycles on the side of the road prior to the incident.

Subsequently, individuals in the video were seen hurling an object, suspected to be a petrol bomb, before fleeing the scene.

Another 42-second video recording shows members of the public helping to extinguish the fire. – May 10, 2024
