Sepak Takraw World Cup: after downing Brunei, Japan aims for victory against Malaysia next

KUALA LUMPUR – After getting his first game jitters out of the way against Brunei, Japan doubles captain Ryota Haruhara is looking forward to facing Malaysia in their next game at the Sepak Takraw World Cup.

Haruhara and partner Yuki Sato took on Muhammad Azri Awang Abdul Harith and Muhamad Basyiruddin Haji Kamis in the opening game of Group A action in the Doubles Premier event at Titiwangsa Stadium, here today.

Japan was in control of the whole match, winning in straight sets 15-13, 15-10.

“We expected to win the game today and I’m happy with this victory.

“The field is very exciting and I’m really glad to play here in front of this crowd,” said the 2022 Asian Games quadrant bronze medalist.

Next, the Japanese team will take on Malaysia and a relaxed Haruhara is looking for a win against the hosts.

“Before the game against Brunei, I was nervous but now that we have won, I’m more relaxed.

“There are many good teams and players at this World Cup, making the tournament exciting.

“We want to win the doubles title, and in our next game against Malaysia, I’m looking for a win,” he said.

Japan will play Malaysia tomorrow at 6.30pm. – May 18, 2024
