Intruders plead guilty to Istana Negara break-in attempt

Both suspects, aged 29, 37, admit to criminal trespass, one denies additional weapon charge, says police chief

KUALA LUMPUR – The two men who attempted to enter Istana Negara last Friday, claiming to seek an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, pleaded guilty after being charged in the Kuala Lumpur court today.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said both Malaysians, aged 29 and 37, were charged under Sections 447/511 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass.

“One of them faced an additional charge under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 for carrying offensive weapons in public places. 

“The individual pleaded not guilty to the charge, while their motive for trying to trespass into the palace remains unknown,” he said.

Previously, the police arrested the duo at Gate 3 of the palace after they were intercepted at around 4.40pm while attempting to enter the palace grounds in their vehicle. 

Meanwhile, upon inspection of the Perodua Kembara, police discovered a parang.

Despite their assertion that they were attempting to meet the king, both individuals tested negative for drugs. – May 20, 2024
