Teresa Kok death threat: two witnesses speak out, provide police statements

Kuala Lumpur police chief says investigation ongoing, no arrests have been made

7:45 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Police have recorded statements from two witnesses over the two bullets and the threatening letter sent to Seputeh MP Teresa Kok.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the investigation into criminal intimidation under Section 507 of the Penal Code is still ongoing, and no arrests have been made.

Kok lodged a police report yesterday after discovering the handwritten threat and bullets in her mailbox.

The note, written in red ink, read, “C*** Cina! Lu akan mati! Tunggu! (Damned Chinese! You will die! Wait!).” Two bullets accompanied the menacing message.

After lodging the report, police officers went to Kok’s condominium mailbox area to inspect the scene.

Kok is not the only DAP politician to have received threats.

On January 10, a molotov cocktail was thrown at the home of DAP lawmaker Beruas MP Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham in Ayer Tawar, Perak, causing damage to his property and three vehicles.

The attack on Ngeh occurred after he made a controversial suggestion to include a non-Muslim constitutional law expert and a representative from the Malaysian Bar in a special committee on shariah laws.

On March 7, Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming’s mother received anonymous threatening letters at her home in Ayer Tawar.

The letters warned Nga, who is also housing and local government minister, not to “challenge Islam”. Nga has previously been at the centre of controversies over statements perceived to touch on racial and religious sensitivities. – May 20, 2024
