Selangor FC’s Faisal Halim discharged after gruesome attack

Footballer to now enter next phase of recovery, say Red Giants

KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor FC have confirmed that Faisal Halim has been discharged from Avisena Specialist Hospital in Shah Alam.

The 26-year-old had been receiving treatment since May 5 after falling victim to an acid attack while with his family at a shopping centre in Petaling Jaya. 

As a result of the attack, Faisal suffered fourth-degree burns on several parts of his body and had to be placed under intensive care.

After successfully undergoing several surgeries and a skin transplant procedure with skin imported from Belgium, Faisal was reported to be stable and transferred to a general ward last week.

In a club statement, Selangor FC said Faisal would now be entering the next phase of his recovery process.

The club further expressed their gratitude to the doctors and staff for their comprehensive care towards the player’s recovery.

“Faisal’s recovery from these serious injuries is truly remarkable and surpasses the expectations of all parties. The club would like to express our utmost gratitude to Dr Wan Syazli Rodzaian and all staff at Avisena Specialist Hospital and Thomson Hospital Kota Damansara, who have made significant contributions to Faisal’s recovery.

“We also extend our highest appreciation to the Selangor FC family, state and national leaders, government, private agencies, local and international communities, and all Malaysians who have provided moral support and prayed for the wellbeing of our beloved national football icon.

“The club and Faisal’s family kindly request that all parties give him space and privacy to undergo this recovery process. Let us continue to pray for Faisal’s wellbeing and full recovery,” read the statement.

Faisal joined the Red Giants from Terengganu FC last year. He went on to score 12 goals in 28 appearances for the side in all competitions last season.

Selangor are currently seventh in the Super League table, with three points from two games. – May 25, 2024
