Authorities investigate property damage and disturbance following Red Giants’ 4-0 victory

8:00 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Police are actively tracing suspects involved in a commotion that caused property damage at the MBPJ Stadium following the Super League match between Selangor FC and Negeri Sembilan FC on May 26.

The Petaling Jaya police headquarters launched the investigation after viral videos surfaced showing fans shouting and chasing each other after the match.

In a statement, Petaling Jaya deputy police chief M. Hussin Sollehuddin Zolkifly confirmed that investigations were being conducted under Section 427 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“Police have detected two videos of an incident involving local football supporters that occurred at a stadium in the Petaling Jaya area,” said Hussin.

“The incident is suspected to have happened after the conclusion of a local league match on May 26 at approximately 11pm.

“As a result of the commotion, the iron gate leading to the supporters’ seating area was damaged.

“The investigation is ongoing, and police are still tracing the suspects involved in the incident.

“Members of the public who have information are requested to come forward to assist in the investigation. They are also advised to adhere to regulations and not to engage in any illegal activities,” read the statement.

Selangor defeated Negeri Sembilan 4-0 in their second Super League match, which drew 10,365 fans to the MBPJ Stadium.

The Red Giants currently rank fourth in the Super League table, with six points from three games.

They have only played two matches after withdrawing from the Charity Shield, which granted Johor Darul Ta’zim FC a walkover win and three points. – May 28, 2024
