No arrests so far over leaked CCTV footage of Faisal Halim acid attack, say Selangor police

Clip part of probe, an offence to spread it, says state top cop Datuk Hussein Omar Khan

4:57 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said no arrests had been made in relation to leaked CCTV footage showing the acid attack on Selangor FC footballer Faisal Halim.

The case is still being investigated, he said at a press conference today.

A 56-second video posted on X showed what is believed to be the acid attack on Faisal at a shopping mall in Petaling Jaya on May 5.

Police have said the video is evidence in the investigation by Bukit Aman’s classified crime investigation unit.

Hussein said Selangor police were currently tracking down the individuals or parties responsible for leaking the CCTV footage, which has gone viral on social media.

It is an offence to reveal evidence that is part of a police investigation and a probe into the leak has been opened under Section 203A of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, he said.

The penalty is a fine of up to RM1 million or jail for up to one year, or both, if convicted. The law also imposes a further fine of RM1,000 for each day the offence is continued after conviction.

Faisal has undergone several surgeries since the attack and was discharged from hospital about a week ago. – May 31, 2024
