Zayn Rayyan murder case: cops arrest parents

The couple will be brought to court for remand application this morning

8:35 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Police have arrested the parents of Zayn Rayyan, the child with autism who was found dead near his home in Damansara Damai last December, following months of investigations into the murder case.

Speaking to Scoop, Selangor police chief, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, confirmed the arrests of the two individuals yesterday at 11am.

He said both parents will be remanded at the Petaling Jaya magistrate’s court this morning.

A source revealed that the parents were arrested at their residence in Puncak Alam, Selangor. They were then taken to the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters for further investigation.

On December 5 of last year, Zayn Rayyan, 6, was reported missing in Damansara Damai, Selangor, and was found dead near a stream about 200m from his apartment block at Idaman Apartments the next day.

The child is believed to have been murdered, as the autopsy revealed injuries on his neck and body consistent with self-defense, leading to an investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

In February, the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director, Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, said the policenever halted the investigation into the murder of the autistic child.

He stated that despite challenges, including locating the primary crime scene, the police persisted and scrutinised every piece of information received to solve the case.

He also said that all forms of expertise from the department, including forensics, had been mobilised to ensure that the responsible perpetrators are brought to justice. – June 1, 2024
