Na’imah’s passport temporarily released for Swiss art show

Despite previous rejections, she has been granted temporary custody of her passport for international travel to Switzerland for an art exhibition and Singapore for work

KUALA LUMPUR – Toh Puan Na’imah Abdul Khalid, the wife of former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, has been granted temporary custody of her passport to travel to Singapore and Switzerland this month.

Session court judge Azura Alwi granted the application after deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin told the court that there were no objections, Free Malaysia Today reported.

Na’imah had earlier said that she received an invitation to an art exhibition in Switzerland spanning June 10 to 16. Following this, she said that she needed to travel to Singapore for work.

She had requested the temporary release of her passport from today until June 30.

Previously, the high court rejected her application for the permanent return of her travel document, citing that Na’imah posed a flight risk.

For the record, Daim, who has been similarly charged with failing to declare his assets to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), did not have his passport impounded.

The impoundment order on her passport had been set by the sessions court on January 23 after Na’imah, 67, claimed trial on a charge of failing to declare her assets to the MACC.

She was charged under Section 36(2) of the MACC Act 2009 for allegedly giving a sworn written statement on December 1, 2023, that did not comply with the notice terms served to her under Section 36(1)(b) of the same legislation.

The impoundment of her travel document is an additional condition for her release on RM250,000 bail until her case is disposed of. – June 7, 2024
