KUALA LUMPUR – Another container marked with the logo of Israeli shipping company ZIM was ordered to turn back to Thailand at Bukit Kayu Hitam in Kedah.

State Customs deputy director (enforcement and compliance) Suhaime Affindi Zainol Abidin said the container truck, carrying computer equipment, had a foreign registration number and entered the Bukit Kayu Hitam Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex at about noon yesterday.

“An inspection by Kedah Customs officials found that the container bore the ZIM logo and was bringing imported merchandise into Malaysia,” Bernama reported him saying.

The vehicle was detained for further inspections and subsequent instructions before it was ordered to turn back to Thailand.

It stopped about an hour and a half at the checkpoint before leaving Malaysia at 1.30pm yesterday, Suhaime added.

The day before, on June 5, Perlis Customs stopped and ordered another ZIM container carrying frozen chicken to turn back to Thailand at the Padang Besar CIQ Complex.

Since Israel’s war on Palestine began last October, Malaysia has barred ZIM containers from entering ports, and ships belonging to the Israeli company from entering Malaysian waters. – June 7, 2024
