SINGAPORE – Muslims in Singapore will celebrate Aidiladha on June 17, according to the republic’s Mufti Nazirudin Mohd Nasir.

“Based on astronomical calculations and the imkanur rukyah criteria, the new moon of Zulhijah was above Singapore’s horizon for 49 minutes after sunset this evening.

“This means the start of the month of Zulhijah for the year 1445 Hijrah falls on Saturday, June 8, 2024. Therefore, I am pleased to declare that Aidiladha will fall on Monday, June 17, 2024,” he said in a video clip uploaded on the Facebook page of the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore yesterday.

Nazirudin urged Muslims to welcome the month of Zulhijah with charitable deeds and to pray for the safety and successful pilgrimage of the haj pilgrims.

“Embrace the meaning of sacrifice behind Aidiladha and celebrate it with compassion,” he said.

Meanwhile, Muslims in Indonesia will also celebrate Aidiladha on June 17, said Deputy Religious Affairs Minister Saiful Rahmat Dasuki.

He announced this after a meeting of the isbat committee in Central Jakarta last night.

In a press conference, Saiful Rahmat said the committee unanimously decided that Aidiladha would be on the date, a Monday. – June 8, 2024
