Session held under Child Protection Advocacy Programme focuses on online ethics and responsibilities

7:17 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Some 150 students and teachers from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Datuk Undang Abdul Manap in Johol, Negri Sembilan, recently participated in an online safety awareness session through the Klik Dengan Bijak (Click Wisely) initiative organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

The MCMC said the session, held under the Child Protection Advocacy Programme, was conducted in collaboration with the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry, along with the Negri Sembilan social welfare and education departments and the police.

“The KDB initiative serves as a vital tool in educating the public about online ethics and responsibilities. Social media literacy among children is paramount for their digital empowerment.

“However, it’s equally important to ensure that children’s internet experiences are supervised appropriately, with all stakeholders playing a crucial role in promoting safe, positive and responsible online behaviour,” the MACC said in a statement today.

It also said that SMK Datuk Undang Abdul Manap is the second institution out of 30 schools identified for the Child Protection Advocacy Programme tour in Negri Sembilan scheduled for this year.

The commission reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing awareness of positive, productive and responsible internet usage through advocacy initiatives. – June 8, 2024
