Govt retiree extorted of RM44,500 after threatened with leak of nude clip

Man, 61, had to pay money to suspect he knew on Facebook, say Jempol police

10:50 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – A sexagenarian lost RM44,500 after being threatened by a woman claiming to be from Indonesia who said she would leak a video of him exposing himself.

Jempol district police chief Hoo Chang Hook said the 61-year-old senior citizen had to pay the money to the suspect he knew on Facebook as Ayuni Seri to prevent the video from being spread.

The man also said that he got to know the woman through the Facebook Messenger app while he was at home on May 29.

Five days later, the victim, a government retiree, received a video call from the woman while he was driving.

“The suspect, believed to be Indonesian, allegedly made a video call while being naked on June 3 at 4.30pm.

“The victim was asked to undress, and he complied, exposing himself to the suspect during the video call, which lasted for about one minute,” Hoo said.

Following that, the victim received a call about the video, and the suspect was threatened that the video would be leaked on social media unless a sum of money was paid, he said in a statement.

Hoo added that the victim made six payments to four different accounts totalling RM44,500 between June 5 and 7.

He said the victim was also asked to deposit an additional RM58,500 yesterday to solve the problem.

Due to financial difficulties, the victim reported the incident to police, and the case is now being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code. – June 9, 2024
